Spinning-wheel maintenence and smoothing your spin with Sarah Stacey

A great turn-out for an informative and enjoyable day for spinners, old and new, led by Sarah Stacey. We spent the morning learning about the maintenance of different wheels and the tools and equipment to replace work parts and keep our wheels running smoothly and almost all of them quietly! We delved into the issue of whorl ratio and practised the effects of this on our twist and ply. We had a shed load of questions and were able to draw on Sarah's extensive knowledge and expertise, including the role of crimp in spinning and lots else beside.

We later moved on to spinning slub singles and the technique needed and how much fun this could be. Sarah had brought along a variety of yarn for us to try including some rather lovely Merinon and Silk tops with which we had great fun.
