Clytha Park Open Gardens
For the first time this year we were invited to exhibit and demonstrate at Clytha Park on the Open Gardens Day. We had a wonderful site in the kitchen garden alongside representatives from Newport Mediaval Ship, The Ruperra Trust, Friends of Bettws Newydd Church, Pontypool Local History and Newport Chartists, as well as stalls selling honey, botanicals, sharpening tools and others. Gwent Guild Visit to Wingham Wool, 14/07/2026
Seven of the Gwent Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers drove to Gloucestershire on 14th July, 2026 to visit Wingham Wool Work in their relatively new home in Berkley. We had a lovely day! We met up at the Berkley Castle Kitchen Garden Café for lunch and a wander around the castle’s walled garden before travelling down the road to meet Tom and Ellie Gough at ‘Wingham Wool’. British Wool Board visit
The Guild spend a fascinating morning at the Wool Board depot in Brecon learning about the journey that fleeces take from the farmer to eventual sale at the raw wool market in Bradford. Brecon is one of two depots in Wales and there are others in England, but the two in Wales account for huge proportion of all the fleeces they deal with. We even came away with some great fleeces and the promise of more if we call again.
