Weaving Focus, Kumihimo Braiding

Today was a weaving focus day at High Cross.
Dunja gave a fabulous presentation on Kumihimo braiding that was so informative with members asking lots of questions.
This was followed by a show and tell - Marilyn had a lovely salmon coloured shawl, Wendy had a cushion done on a peg loom, Danielle showed her amazing jacket and Huw displayed a Mayan runner he had received as a present.
The final part of the session was about mood boards following Lorna Thomas’ course which dealt with mood boards and also with sound objects. If anyone is interested there is an online course and the guild has had a voucher for a reduction on the price.
A very informative day. Looking forward to the next one on Sat 18th July.

The photos show the Marudai, Dunja demonstrating its use. The braids in the third picture from left to right are the first three Kongo gumi, Chidori gumi, a decorative flat braid, maru-genji gumi, a 16th century design used to fasten Samurai armour.
